Delhi 6 - FirstDay

Another movie review... February has been movie month :) Best part was catching some of the most-hyped movies that were released this month. Apart from Naan Kadavul none of the movies have had an amazing impact on me and that depressed me a bit. The music of Delhi 6 has been xtremely popular and the video clippings were impressive - thats usually a huge point in favor of the movie.
The story is pretty simple, a grandmom (Waheeda Rahman) who comes to know she is dying wants to visit India - her home in Delhi before she dies. Her son does not want to return to India and so the grandson (Abishek Bachhan) volunteers to take his grandma to her old Delhi home. They return to the old haweli in Chandini chowk and are given a warm welcome by the family members and friends. After the grandmother steps foot into her home - she decides not to go back to America and is determined to die in India. The story revolves around Abishek and the various events that take place during his stay in Dilli that makes him decide to either stay in India or go back to the US.

Wah:
AR Rahman's music score - all songs are fantastic with the exception of the rock song on the kala bhandhar. Sonam Kapoor's potrayal as Bittu. Waheeda Rahman as the dying but spunky grandmother. Masakali - the pigeon whose wings are clipped. Abishek as the "Burger Chaap" frm Amrika who blunders his way into the maze of emotional vulnerabilities of his relatives, sunny babas, kaala bhandhars, and the eternal Hindu-Muslim "We are Bhai-Bhai; We are sworn enemies" and the like. There was a fair amount of stereotypes, some surprisingly funny moments; an ode to Delhi despite the fact that most scenes were shot in Rajasthan.

Blah: Editing could have been slicker; Story-line should have been taut - it was instead left loose and so the impact was not on the head with a bang - but jes brushed your shoulder; A totally unnecessary flashback scene for Abishek that helps him take the decision. Climax was a killer and I don't mean it in the good sense. Unfortunate!

Conclusion: A yummy slice of black-forest pastry that has gone bitter and you realize it only when you are having the last bite.

Would like to add the following warnings too:
* If you like abhishek, you ought to appreciate his heroism for facing death twice in the movie. If you hate him or not his fan... You may face irritation and anger!!!!
* You may end up crying not for abhishek's inherited emotional drama skill, but, for the money you paid for the tickets during the recession time.
Finally, watch the movie in gold class PVR if you have a brave heart!!! ;)

There are a lot of good points in Delhi-6, da, but I think we all suffer frm attn defiecency syndrome - if the person does not cm to the point fairly quickly - we tune out :D
